PRVIH 15 GODINA RADA OMŠ “STEVAN HRISTIĆ” , MLADENOVAC

The first 15 years of work of the Primary Music School “Stevan Hristić”

The study  of musical instruments in Mladenovac had began far before the Primary Music School opened at the Adult education centre. The next move was the opening of the detached department of the Primary Music School “Petar Konjović” from Belgrade. Provided with only three classrooms and few instruments, the odyssey began, which would, as it would turn out in the next 15 – years period, result in foundation of the Primary Music School “Stevan Hristić”, which is today not only the respectable educational institution on the whole country level, but also one of the pillows of culture and leader of the cultural life in Mladenovac.

A fifteen years ago, a few professors and associates, led by the music teacher, Aca Panić,  in the primary school “Momčilo Živojinović”, founded the music school in Mladenovac. They could not even imagine that one day it would become a successful school, within the frame of the whole Republic, as well as the institution of culture in the local community, without which, it seems, not a single cultural happening could be realised. It fully applies to the music, literature, drama and fine arts creativity. Among the people that had walked this thorny path we should mention the professors that are even today performing they work in school. These are: Marija Rakonjac, professor of violin, Aleksandar Marković, piano accompanist and Nada Torbica Đokić, professor of piano and the school director since 1996, probably the most responsible person for all the values for which the Primary Music School “Stevan Hristić” stands for today! Present from the beginning are also Milosava Ristić, auxiliary worker and Ljiljana Mitrović, longtime secretary, and now chief accountant, whose contribution to the school is immeasurably large.

Zoran Ivanov sa odseka harmonike osvaja II nagradu i time nagoveštava blistave uspehe svih budućih učenika.

In the far-off year of 1994, on the September 1st, the fist generation of students was enrolled in the Primary Music School “Stevan Hristić”, 138 of them in total. They were arranged in seven sections, that is two classes of piano, accordion and violin, one class of guitar, clarinet, flute and a half of class of trumpet. The preparatory class gathered 12 students. Being registered in the court register, the school officially acquired a status of legal subject on the 9th November, 1994, with 13 employed professors. The set of musical instruments included two pianette, one accordion, one guitar and brass instruments that were in use at school before the foundation of the branch department of the Primary Music School “Petar Konjović” from Belgrade. During the first school year, more precisely, in March of 1995, the students of the music school of Mladenovac appeared at the National music competition in Belgrade. In April of the same year they were competing at the Festival of music and ballet schools in Subotica, and they won the first prize for the “new” school. Zoran Ivanov from the accordion department won the 2nd prize, that would indicate brilliant success of all the future students. Through the years that would come, an unwritten rule will be established, that applies up to these days. It implies that students must reap the awards on every single competition. In the school year of 1994/95, 12 students got the certificate that confirms that a student has accomplished the primary music school.

The next school year seven students graduated in total, and Sanela Radosavljević from the flute department became the first student of the Primary Music School “Stevan Hristić“ that continued her studies and enrolled in the Secondary Music School „Kosta Manojlović“ in Zemun. It was the first generation of students that got their certificates about the accomplished primary music school education in Mladenovac.

Only two years after the foundation of the music school, on the September 8th, 1996, its founder and first director, Aca Panić, died, and on the day of his funeral (10th December) the school did not work, since all the staff, including the students, wanted to pay homage to the man which, it is safe to say, dedicated all his life to music and development of this noble art in our town. During his funeral, the 1st movement of Petar Ilič Čajkovski’s B-moll piano concert was heard, which was the favourite music piece of this extraordinary man.

Upon the proposal of the Teachers Board, and by decision of the School Committee, on 17th September, Nada Torbica Đokić, professor of piano, was elected as acting director. It turned out that the decision was completely right. Even today, 13 years after the decision was made, Nada Torbica Đokić, with the full support of the employees,  is standing on the top of this educational and cultural institution, which is of great importance for the local community.

In the school year of 1996/97, the intensive collaboration with other primary schools in Mladenovac and the preparatory school began, with the aim of making as more complete as possible students’ education, as well as in order to animate the future students of the music school. Also, the full collaboration was established with the other cultural institutions of the town, and by this act the “cultural offer” of Mladenovac would obtain a new quality and a completely other dimension. Students and professors of the Primary Music School „Stevan Hristić“ became the unavoidable part of every artistic programme, no matter it was organised by Centre for Culture, Library or Museum, and the very school became a place where more and more often the renowned names from the world of classical music delivered their performances, such as: Tatjana Olujić, Edit Makedonska, Zorica Mitev, Olivera Đurđević, Zvezdalina Todorova, Alisa Frater, Nevena Vidović, Marija Sabljić, Marija Misita, Sanja Petričić, Veljko Klenkovski, Bojan Pešić, Nenad Janković, Madlen Stokić, Dragica Stojanović, Maja Mihić, Slavko Nikolić, Miodrag Čolaković, Dušana Trbojević, Marina Horak, Trip, Ana i Irena Simonuti, Ljubomira Milanović, Jelena Rakić, Miloš Punišić, vocal group „Eho odiseja“ and many more. The fact that also contributed to the mentioned success was that, by the end of the first semester of the year 1997/1998, the school got from the Institute for Rehabilitation “Selters” a semi grand piano to serve its needs.

Školske 1999./2000. godine OMŠ „Stevan Hristić“ prvi put u svoj sistem obrazovanja uvodi odsek solo pevanja koji vodi proslavljeni operski pevač, tenor i magistar solo pevanja Slavko Nikolić.

The years that follow were marked by successful concerts and awards from music competitions that were being organised throughout Serbia, as well as by the deepening of the collaboration of the music school with primary and secondary schools from Mladenovac and with the other cultural institutions. In the year 1999/2000, for the first time, the school introduced the department for solo singing into its educational system, conducted by the famous opera singer, Slavko Nikolić, tenor and magister of solo singing.

Although in the year 1999. our country went through an extremely difficult period in its recent history, i.e. NATO bombing, the employees of the school initiated an action in order to raise funds for the purchase of a semi grand piano. The action was completed by the end of that year by purchasing the used piano on the 17th August. The next school year was important because of the fact that Mrs Živadinka Panić, the wife of  the late school director, Aca Panić, took over the place of conductor in the preparatory class, namely in the “Small choir” in which many future students of the music school would begin its education. The visit of the Princess Jelisaveta Karađorđević to our town was remembered as one of the significant events in 2001, and on that occasion she presented her book “An apple and a butterfly”. The promotion included the performance of the students of music school and of the beginners of the small choir.

The first time from its foundation, on the 27th January, 2002, the school celebrated its ‘slava’ (patron saint’s day) “Sveti Sava” . On that occasion, the school was blessed, and then the special cake made for the patron saint was cut through. Although the reformed system of primary education of that period required new conditions to be fulfilled for the proper work of the school, the school year of 2003/2004 began with the unsolved problem of unadequate space conditions. Over the space of 195 square metres that the school possessed, there were three classrooms for the individual teaching, one classroom for the group teaching, a small concert hall which was also used as a classroom for the individual teaching, a passage, sanitary facilities and one common, multipurpose room that had been used at the same time by director, secretary and school teachers. As to the program activities, that year the intermunicipal collaboration between Mladenovac and Gornja Radgona in Slovenia was renewed, and the two music schools, one from Mladenovac and the other from the mentioned place, established the contact.

The collaboration with the Church Choir “Oplenac” from Topola was intensified and promoted. The Choir was conducted by Marija Rakonjac, professor of violin in the music school of Mladenovac.

In the next school year (2005/2006), upon the insistance of the director Nada Torbica Đokić, the special attention was paid to the chamber music, which in that school year resulted in brilliant success of the chamber ensembles in the organised competitions throughout the country. The most successful ensemble was consisted of the following members: Smiljana Dimitrijević, flute and Stefan Šarkoćević, piano, that won four 1st awards. These are: the 1st award from the National music competition in Belgrade, the 1st award from the 50th Festival of music and ballet schools of Serbia, held in Zajecar, the 1st award from the Tournament of music schools in Mladenovac (2006) and the golden medal from the Competition organised by the music school  “Josip Marinković“ in Belgrade, where the two of them held the title laureate.

Svoj ionako bogat program obrazovnih i koncertnih aktivnosti, škola proširuje u školskoj 2005./2006. godini organizovanjem različitih seminara, predavanja i radionica namenjenih kako svojim učenicima tako i đacima ostalih škola sa područja mladenovačke opštine.

Its already rich program full of educational and concert activities, the school broadened in the school year of 2005/2006 by organising different kind of seminars, lectures and workshops not only for its students, but also for the students from the other schools that belong to the Municipality of Mladenovac.

It could not be noticed from the outside what kind of huge and, above all, positive changes was ready to take place in the following year, so that devoted work of the past 12 years would finally bear fruit. By many parameters the most successful, the new school year of 2006/2007 was on the threshold.

By the decision from November 2006, after full 12 years and one day from the official inauguration, the extension of the workspace was finally alotted to the Primary Music School „Stevan Hristić“ from Mladenovac, i.e. the rooms on the 3rd floor of the Adult education centre with the surface of 173 square metres were allocated to the school. With the previous 195, the school entered the new school year with the total surface of 368 square metres, within which it would spread its activities in the future, conduct teaching, organise concerts, promotions, seminars and other numerous activities. However, that school year would be remembered for the fantastic results that the students achieved in many competitions within the country borders, as well as for the concert performances, events, promotions etc. In the school year of 2006/2007 students from the Primary Music School „Stevan Hristić“ had altogether 445 public appearances! They won 122 awards in total, from which there were 12 special, 53 first, 42 second and 15 third awards. That made the season far more successful  from all the prevous ones together! In the National music competition, held in 2007. in Belgrade, although poor in number od students, our music school won the 4th place among the competition of primary music schools. Among other things, that year, the school finally equipped its hall with the semi grand piano of the appropriate quality; thus all the necessary conditions were achieved for the smooth development of concert activities on the high artisitic level. As the additional curiosity for that year stands the fact that, at the end of the school year (2006/2007), 30 students  received diplomas of the accomplished primary music school education, which was the largest number of students per year since its foundation, that is since 1994.

Krajem polugodišta školske 2007./2008. godine, konkretno 1. januara 2008. u 7 sati ujutru, počinje adaptacija i rekonstrukcija II i III sprata Radničkog univerziteta, a radovi su završeni u februaru 2008. godine. U drugoj polovini avgusta iste godine izvršena je javna nabavka školskog nameštaja i učila, a škola Rešenjem Predsednika opštine dobija još jednu prostoriju na III spratu Radničkog univerziteta čime se ukupna površina kojom raspolaže povećava na 382 metra kvadratna.

At the end of the first semester of the school year 2007/2008, most precisely on the 1st January, 2008, at 7 a.m, both adaptation and reconstruction of the second and third floor of the Adult education centre began, and these works were finished in February of 2008. In the second half of August of the same year, the public purchase of the school furniture and teaching aids was made, and by the District Council Chairman’s Decision, one more room on the third floor of the Adult education centre was allocated to the school, that made the total surface which is at the school’s disposal increase up to 382 square metres.

In the “Chronicle”, which had been edited for 15 years by Mrs Ljiljana Mitrović, present in the Primary Music School „Stevan Hristić“ from its foundation, at the beginning of every new year, you might have read the new story that went almost exactly like this: “This school year will also start in unadequate conditions…” But, at the beginning of the school year 2008/2009, the first sentence in “Letopis” was significantly changed: “The Primary Music School „Stevan Hristić“ entered the fifteenth school year of its independent work in the extended, repaired and adapted school space… ” Just to remind you, it is about 382 square metres that cover the 2nd and the 3rd floor of the Adult education centre which now includes 10 classrooms, 3 offices, staff-room and one small, nicely arranged concert hall with the semi grand piano, as well as two large corridors and auxiliary rooms. Considering the instrumentary, the music school of Mladenovac today has 9 pianos, 8 accordions, 31 violin, one guitar, 16 flutes, 17 clarinets and 7 trumpets.

Koncert Jelene Rakić - prvi koncert održan u saniranom, adaptiranom i nameštajem opremljenom prostoru muzičke škole (26.09.2008.)

Initiated a few years ago, the traditional Tournament of music schools – the regional competition of music schools, organised by the PMS „Stevan Hristić“, which this year gathered, in only one day (20th May 2009), 138 contestants and about 60 music teachers (from Mladenovac, Grocka, Aranđelovac, Smederevska Palanka, Zemun, Negotin and Trstenik), in remembrance of its founder and first school director, changed its name to the “Aca Panić Memorial”. The competition covered 9 competitive disciplines, over 5 locations in the town of Mladenovac, and all the employees and almost all the school students were included in the organisation of the event.

Takođe veliki poduhvat predstavlja i „Muzički tobogan“ održan 29. decembra 2008. godine.

„Muzički tobogan“ (“The Music Slide”) was also a huge undertaking that took place on the 29th December, 2008. In this competition, the students from the PMS “Stevan Hristić“ nad primary school „Momčilo Živojinović“ took part, and disciplines were the knowledge of music, musical instruments, music dictations, karaoke and the recognition of music examples. At the proposal of the District Council Chairman, the expansion of the competition had been planned, so as that, by the end of 2009, it might gather the students from all the primary schools of Mladenovac, and the general sponsor should be the Muncipality of Mladenovac.

Turnir, Mladenovac

Taking into account that the first music steps in the PMS „Stevan Hristić“, in the past 15 years, were made by over a hundred little children, the conclusion that might be drawn is that all the school employees did their job very well and on the level. Many of them continued their education in high schools and at different faculties of music art in Serbia; some went abroad, and some of them are now professors themselves and at the same time renowned artists.

This, as well as the past 15 years passed in the celebration of music, is surely an indicator to all of us that we should send our children to this educational institution, take a look back every time when we notice big posters throughout the town that announce concerts organised by this cultural institution, and, of course, come and see them!
